In general, Plastic Surgery encompasses both aesthetic or cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery.

Aesthetic or cosmetic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the body in order to improve appearance and self-esteem. Among the types of cosmetic surgery are:

  • Arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, to reshape the under portion of the upper arm.
  • Body lift improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin.
  • Breast augmentation, also known as mammaplasty, involves breast implants to increase the size or volume of the breasts.
  • Breast lift, also known as mastopexy, raises and firms the breast by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape or recontour the breasts..
  • Brow, or forehead, lift minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead.
  • Eyelids, upper or lower, surgery to remove excess fat or puffiness
  • Facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a procedure to improve visible signs of aging of the face and neck.
  • Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits to improve body contours and proportions.
  • Nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, improves the appearance and proportion of the nose to enhance facial harmony. Thi surgery may also be a medical procedure to correct impaired breathing caused by structural adnormalities in the nose.
  • Tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat to create an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.

Reconstructive surgery is performed to adjust, improve or correct abnormal structures of the body. These abnormalities may have been caused by congential defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, disease, infection, etc. This form of surgery is often done to improve function, but also to try to create a normal appearance.
