Yoga
Yoga is a 5,000 year-old tradition, originating in India, and is a means of merging the body, mind and spirit and expressing the true essence of who you are - light, goodness and compassion. Postures and poses, along with breathing techniques, can be useful tools in overcoming some of what ails us as our bodies change with age.
With arthritis, lower back pain, creaky knees, bursitis, decreased agility and other physical changes and declining health, we often find our minds are in one place while our bodies are in another place and we are not able to physically do the things that used to come easily.
Taking a positive step towards making a mind-body connection through yoga can go a long way towards improving the quality of life and can promote a sense of general well being that may be very important in shifting one's outlook as increased physical ability emerges.
The gentle poses, the concentration and stimulation of the senses during yoga are powerful tools. It is possible to adapt the poses to accommodate differences in mobility, physical limitations and abilities. This individualization is key to maximizing the benefits of yoga sessions.
The benefits of yoga to mind, body and spirit are well documented and can help the participant feel more vital while experiencing an improved sense of well-being through the techniques and support of an adaptive yoga instructor.
