Interesting and helpful information

Cosmetic dentistry improves the appearance of a person's teeth, mouth and smile. Misshapen teeth, unsightly gaps, deep discoloration, and silver-mercury fillings are among the conditions that can be corrected with porcelain veneers, crowns and bridges, teeth whitening and porcelain inlays and onlays. Some of the current advances to help improve the appearance of your mouth and smile are summarized cosmetic dental procedures.

Dental implants are small titanium screws that serve as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth.  Due to the biocompatible properties of titanium, a dental implant fuses with the bone and becomes a good anchor for the replacement tooth. Dental implants can be used in solutions for replacing single or multiple missing teeth.

Dental sleep medicine is a medical-dental connection focusing on the management of sleep-related breathing disorders, which includes snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, with oral appliance therapy and upper airway surgery.

Holistic dentistry is also known as Biological Dentistry and at the core of this approach to dental care is the recognition of the mouth as a micro-environment of the body with the potential to reflect changes in the health of the whole person.  A basic premise is that dental wellness is a state in which the mouth and the rest of our being are in balance and harmony.

Laser dentistry uses a high-technology device that generates a very specific beam of concentrated light. This beam of light focuses energy into your mouth to help remove areas of gum infection or tooth decay and artistically sculpt your gums with great precision and accuracy. The laser beam sterilizes the affected area and seals off blood vessels, which minimizes the chance of infection or bleeding.  In many instances the need for anesthetic injections is reduced and in some instances eliminated, as well as the associated side effects.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons remove impacted, damaged and nonrestorable teeth, including injuries and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.

Osteonecrosis of the jaw, or "Dead Jaw" is is linked with bone disease resulting as a side effect to certain drugs, such as Fosamax.  It is linked to the temporary or permanent loss of blood to bone tissue, leading to death of the tissue and the eventual collapse of the bone.

Periodontists diagnose, prevent and treat disease of the gums and other gum problems to maintain the health, function and aesthetics of the mouth. They also provide dental implants to replace missing teeth. You can find additional information at Signs of periodontal disease and Will periodontal treatment hurt?

Prosthodontists are dentists who specialize in the aesthetic restoration and replacement of teeth, with a goal to restore optimum appearance and function to your smile.

TemporoMandibular Joint disorder (TMJ or TMD) dentists seek to minimize pain in the jaw and surrounding tissues as well as limitations to jaw movements.  Suffering from headaches, neck and shoulder pain, jaw pain, ringing in the ears and clicking or popping of the jaw may be alleviated by balancing the bite so the teeth, jaw joints and muscles work together in harmony without strain or tension.
