Can we all pitch in to fix the economy?

A physics teacher once told his students that while one grasshopper on railroad tracks would not slow a train very much, a billion of them would. Using this logic, maybe we can pitch in and work together to help fix our ailing economy.

Go to your favorite major hardware store and, for example, look for a hose attachment. Chances are you will find it was made in China. Go to a local hardware store, such as Ace Hardware, and you may well find a hose attachment made in the USA.

While at the drugstore, you may find the Colgate is made in Mexico, while Crest is made in the USA.

Look at light bulbs, and you may find the major brand as being made in Mexico, while you may find an off-brand light bulb being made in the USA.

Likewise, take a look at Bounce Dryer Sheets and again you may find they may be made in Canada whereas an off-brand is made in the USA.

A good shopper may also find the product made in China may actually not be less expensive, or the difference may be insignificant. What is important is that we start looking at the labels and thinking about adjusting our purchases accordingly. Individually we cannot do much to make change, but collectively we can make an impact. A conscious effort to support American jobs could well have a positive impact, especially if we do this for ourselves as well as spread this message to others. It is important.
